What you can do

Questions

Is Dead Shows free?

Yes, 100% free, with no ads, no tracking, no subscription and no in-app purchases. The recordings come from the Internet Archive, which hosts them for free.

Does it work with Apple CarPlay?

Yes. Browse Today in Grateful Dead History, your Recents and Favorites, Trending shows, or every year of shows, open a setlist and play. Downloaded shows play with no signal.

Where do the recordings come from?

The Internet Archive's Grateful Dead collection: thousands of soundboard, matrix and audience recordings from 1965 to 1995, shared under the band's longstanding taping policy.

What is Today in Grateful Dead History?

The screen Dead Shows opens to: the shows the Dead played on today's date across the years, so there's something different to hear every day.

Can I listen offline?

Yes. Download any show and it plays without a connection, on your iPhone or in CarPlay.

What if a recording won't play?

Archive recordings sometimes go flaky. Dead Shows switches to another recording of the same show and picks up at the same song, after checking the song lengths match so it doesn't land on a mislabeled recording.

Is there an Android version?

Not yet. Dead Shows is iPhone and CarPlay only for now.

Who made it?

A longtime Deadhead who wanted the simplest possible way to hear a fresh show every day, without another subscription.
